I’m practically surgically attached to my red ‘batchel’ so when I was invited to the opening of the new Cambridge Satchel Company boutique in London’s Covent Garden I was excited to attend and check out the new designs in store. The event itself embodied all that the company was about. Owner and founder Julie was there with her family to welcome guests and talk about the new outpost, complete with bloggers lounge and lending library (the very place I am writing this feature, a week after the event, with hot coffee and snacks. I might just move in).

The store itself has a lovely fun layout – library shelving style – which shows off the products well. Organised by size and colour, if you are browsing for a gift it’s a great place to get a firm idea of the possibilities to buy. You can also browse the designs from the recent collaboration with designer Chris Benz and there is an embossing station in the boutique too (transformed into Sophie Ellis Bextor’s DJ booth for the night of the event). You can add initials to your new purchase then and there or return later with your satchel for this service – I need to go back with my batchel for the gold lettering soon!

New colours for spring are emerald and sapphire. The blue is a lovely shade that will not only be perfect for spring but judging by the vast sea of royal and navy blues on the catwalk for autumn winter, a great investment for later months too. The fluoro shades will undoubtedly catch your eye – even brighter in the store than they appear on the website. If brighter, bolder colours aren’t you thing however, the new Chelsea collection might be for you. A beautifully subdued range of pastel colours, ‘Chelsea’ is inspired by that very British tradition the Chelsea Flower Show. Julie said of the new line:

“The color palette for our pastel collection has been given a Chelsea Flower Show makeover for 2013. We have introduced a nude and a coral and have changed the pantones of our lilac to a chalky lavender. The Chelsea Flower Show is, like us, quintessentially British and has a great heritage feel.”

You can find the store at: 15 Shorts Gardens, Seven Dials, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9AT. Tel: 020 72 407 712
